Missions Weekend 2026, Proposal
This is a living Scancours document. We will add what is helpful, delete what isn’t. As an open-source project, contributions from everyone in the Hope Journey Community are expected. The best ideas stay; the over-engineered ones get trimmed.
Theme: The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few. “The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few. Therefore, pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.” – Luke 10:2
Goal: An improved House-to-House Evangelism: Go to Amede, hold face-to-face Gospel conversations, and leave a deposit of Scripture in every church we visit.
Mission: By Sunday afternoon, volunteers will have shared the Gospel one-on-one with community members, local churches will have received fresh copies of the Bible for public reading, and every participant will leave with a deeper confidence in personal witness.
Schedule (25th–26th July 2026)
Friday Evening
Arrival, Prayer & Familiarisation
Advance Team arrives by 6 pm; anyone nearby after work can join those on vacation, too.
Purpose: settle in, secure lodging, map out the cluster of villages for the next day’s strategy.
Evening Prayer Night: commit the weekend into God’s hands, pray for the harvest, for travelling volunteers, and for soft hearts in Amede.
Saturday:
Evangelism 101 Seminar
Morning session with all volunteers and church representatives who will walk with us on Sunday. A reboot of the 2018/19 Evangelism 101 style . We will cover:
How to start a Gospel conversation naturally.
The core message: Creation, Fall, Redemption, Restoration (or a simple Gospel outline).
Handling common questions and objections graciously.
Dividing the field: mapping which houses/churches each team will visit.
Lunch together to build team unity.
Sunday:
House-to-House Evangelism: 9:30 am–11:00 am, Teams of 2–3 (volunteer + church rep, plus an observer if needed) go door to door. Keep conversations warm, listener-focused, and prayerful.
Where welcomed, leave a small Gospel tract or a personal invitation to church.
Bible Distribution & Church Visit
Reassemble at 11:30am to deliver Bibles to the churches in the cluster. Bibles are given for the church’s “Bible Reading Time” during services; note that these are public-use copies, not individual giveaways. Brief time of worship with the host congregation.
Shared meal (breaking of bread) with church leaders and volunteers.
Departure: target 4pm, so everyone is home in time to prepare for the week.
Activities Breakdown
Friday Arrival
Why an advance evening?
Friends working in or near Amede can join after work without taking a full day off. Allows overnight prayer and early reconnaissance, so Saturday can start full-strength.
Prayer Night
A dedicated block, not a rushed opening prayer. We’ll intercede for:
The hearts of the people we will meet.
Protection and unity of the team.
The Lord of the harvest to raise up local labourers beyond this weekend.
Any volunteers travelling on Saturday morning.
Familiarisation Walk
(Friday night or very early Saturday)
Walk the cluster of villages with a local guide.
Identify landmarks, compounds, churches, schools, market squares.
Physically divide the area into zones. This keeps Sunday morning focused and prevents teams overlapping or missing areas.
Evangelism 101 Training
A reboot of the 2018 foundation. Designed for both first-timers and returning volunteers who want a refresh.
Session outline (approx. 2.5 hours including breaks):
Biblical Motivation: Luke 10, the worker and the harvest.
Your Story : learning to share a 2-minute testimony.
The Gospel in a Nutshell : a simple, repeatable framework.
Listening & Questions : how to ask good questions and really hear the answer.
Objections with Grace: what if they say “I’m fine,” “I already go to church,” “Why does God allow suffering?”
Field Briefing: assign zones, partners, and timing. Distribute maps or route cards if needed.
House-to-House Evangelism (Sunday 9:30–11:00)
Process:
Teams pray briefly before they walk.
Approach a home courteously; introduce yourself and the church rep.
Ask permission to have a short conversation.
Share the Gospel, leaving space for questions.
If someone indicates a decision or interest, record basic information (with permission) so the local church can follow up.
Prayer for the household before leaving.
Immediate debrief with team lead at 11:00am to capture testimonies and lessons.
Bible Distribution & Church Visit
We are rebooting The Hope Journey Bible Distribution (since 2018).
Bibles are hardback, large-print, suitable for public reading from a pulpit or lectern.
Presentation: during a church service or right after, a volunteer reads Luke 10:2, explains the weekend, and hands the Bible to the church leader.
Opportunity for the local church to share their needs, so future partnerships may grow.
Departure
Keep it crisp. Breaking of bread together after church around 1pm, final encouragements, then on the road by 2–3pm. This gives a margin to be home by 4–5pm, respecting rest and Monday preparation.
Volunteers Required
We need a lean, focused team.
15 people maximum, past experience shows this size allows personal formation, easy transport, and meaningful engagement without overwhelming the village.
Composition:
1 Weekend Coordinator
2 Advance Team leads (arrive Friday, handle accommodation and familiarisation)
1 Trainer/facilitator for Evangelism 101
8-10 volunteers to go house-to-house (paired with church reps)
1 Logistics/Admin (food, bibles, transport)
If more wish to come, we create a waiting list and consider a repeat trip later in the year for a different village.
Budget:
This is a breakdown of what is needed and how much is needed to get this project done.
